What to Plant for Fall in Columbus, Ohio
Yep, you can still plant one more season in your garden here in Columbus, Ohio.
There’s a common misconception that you can only plant in the garden in mid May and that the growing season is over by the end of September. However, you can actually begin planting in early April and you can continue to plant every single month until October. Depending on what you plant you can even continue to harvest into December or later.
In Columbus, our first frost date is generally around October 8th. A lot of vegetables will mature in around sixty days and can tolerate frost, which means you can continue harvesting them well after the first frost date. In fact many vegetables, like carrots, get sweeter when harvested after frost.
This makes late August or early September the perfect time to start planting your cool weather crops for Columbus’ second cool season in the garden.
